for a project with industrial partners within the BMBF innovation partnership M2Aind ("multimodal analytics and smart sensors for the healthcare industry") on pharmaceutical applications of mass spectrometry imaging.


CeMOS (Head: Prof. Hopf) operates one of the leading mass spectrometry platforms in Germany and is involved in the major collaborative projects BMBF Research Campus M2OLIE, BMBF Research Core for Mass Spectrometry in Systems Medicine (SMART-CARE) and DFG Collaborative Research Center 1389 (UNITE Glioblastoma) with the University Hospitals in Heidelberg and Mannheim and with the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ). For the pharma innovation partnership M2Aind, CeMOS is looking for a scientist (f/m/d) with high motivation, ability to work in a team, several years of previous practical experience and the motivation to develop into a leadership role.


Key Responsibilities:
In cooperation with Bruker and pharma industry partner, we offer a versatile job within a dynamic team. The focus of your work will be expert further development and establishment of MS imaging methods (Bruker timsTOFflex, solarix, rapiflex) in combination with "Laser Capture Microdissection" (LCM) ("MALDI Imaging", "SpatialOMx"). The aim is to develop new digital technologies for the investigation and prediction of drug effects and toxicology. For this purpose, you will develop analytical workflows and measurement methods and suppport IT development for data analysis.


Requirement profile:
You have a PhD in Pharmacy, Analytical (Bio)Chemistry or a related subject and can demonstrate relevant experience in mass spectrometry imaging based on your publication list. You have a sound knowledge of data analysis. Experience using the programming environments R or Python would be a plus. Goal-oriented work and a quick familiarization with new topics are a matter of course for you. Candidates (f/m/d) with industrial or pharmaceutical experience are preferred. High level of teamwork and social competence is very important for our team.


The employment contract is initially limited to two years and can be extended for a further two years if successful.

SMART-CARE explores biomarkers for stratification of cancer relapse using a systems medicine approach.

We offer a versatile job within a dynamic team. The focus of your work will be the independent, advanced development and establishment of non-targeted nano/micro LC-MS/MS lipidomics/metabolomics methods (Bruker timsTOF, solarix, impact II) and the translation to real plasma and tissue samples from tumor patients. To this end, you will develop workflows, measurement methods and ideally IT for data analysis. You will also be responsible for organizing collaboration with partners and project management.

Requirement profile:

You have a PhD in Analytical (Bio)Chemistry or a closely related field and can demonstrate relevant experience in non-targeted LC-MS/MS analysis of lipids/metabolites in small sample volumes based on your publication list. You are well versed in micro methods of sample preparation and instrumentation, especially LC-MS couplings and nanoflow HPLC. Prior experience in the analysis of human plasma samples and tissue extracts would be a plus. Ideally, you will have a working knowledge of data analysis using the R or Python programming environments. Target-oriented work and quick familiarization with new topics are a matter of course for you. We attach particular importance to a high level of teamwork and social competence.

The employment contract is limited until 31.03.2023 and can be extended for another three years if successful.
